Meet OAR’s New Board Members

The members of OAR’s Board of Directors bring diverse backgrounds, experiences, family relationships, and expertise to our organization. OAR recently welcomed two new members to this leadership group and asked them to describe why being a part of OAR’s mission is important to them.

“I’ve been a supporter of OAR since I ran my first marathon in November 2018. I chose OAR because of my previous experiences with the special needs community. My son has struggled with Asperger’s, which was not diagnosed until he was in high school because of his intelligence, which masked his issues. He still struggles with other aspects of his life. After a serious family issue, my wife and I became part of a community of other families who had experienced similar issues, and we were blown away by their support. It is my family’s desire to work with OAR in an even deeper way to offer that same kind of support to families who need it.”

“Having struggled with various facets of my life such as rigidity of schedule and heightened sensory sensitivity, I was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at the age of 35. In what has been a highly emotional and difficult time in my life, for the first time in 35 years things are beginning to make more sense. In partnership with OAR, I look forward to making a difference for others similarly affected by autism. I seek to assist in raising awareness for ASD, a condition I now believe is widely misunderstood.”
