Arlington, VA, May 7, 2025 – In celebration of Autism Acceptance Month, the Organization for Autism Research (OAR) is excited to launch the AASPIRE Healthcare Toolkit on their website. The Academic Autistic Spectrum Partnership in Research and Education (AASPIRE) created the AASPIRE Healthcare Toolkit as part of a project to help improve healthcare access and quality for adults on the autism spectrum.
In collaboration between OAR and AASPIRE, we have updated the online resource to improve user accessibility and confidentiality, giving autistic adults and their providers the opportunity to learn about helpful accommodations in the healthcare experience. Additional pronoun options have also been added to each form to allow users to personalize the reports they create for themselves or for the autistic adults they support.
The toolkit includes the Autism Healthcare Accommodation Tool that allows autistic patients and their supporters to create a personalized accommodation report to share with their healthcare providers. By creating an account on OAR’s website, users are able to save, update, and delete their reports at any time.
“Making the AASPIRE Healthcare Toolkit accessible to all autistic adults and their healthcare providers continues OAR’s dedication to supporting the health and well-being of autistic individuals,” says Kimberly Ha, OAR’s senior director of research and programs.
“I am so happy to offer this important resource to the community again, and grateful for OAR’s collaboration and support. The AASPIRE Healthcare Toolkit was one of our first community-based participatory research projects, and remains one of its most impactful,” says Dora Raymaker, AASPIRE’s founding Autistic Co-Director.
The toolkit was created in collaboration between Oregon Health and Science University, the Autistic Self-Advocacy Network, Portland State University, the Autism Society of Oregon, Syracuse University, Indiana University, and members of the autistic community at large. OAR is grateful for AASPIRE’s dedication and expertise in developing this invaluable resource and is honored to partner with them to continue offering the online toolkit by making it accessible through OAR’s website.
